One of the greatest distinctions Renee had during the earlier years of her career was being accepted and trained by legendary GAEA founder Chigusa Nagayo. Despite being approached by Stardom first, Michelle chose Nagayo's new Marvelous promotion as the ideal place to continue her development.

Hardcore joshi fans will know Nagayo as Lioness Asuka's partner in The Crush Gals tag-team. Together, the pair won numerous tag titles in All Japan Women.

The cool thing here is that Renee was actually the first international student in Marvelous history. That accolade is something she cherishes, and she was thankful for the opportunity to learn from someone who had meant so much to women's wrestling, not only in Japan but across the globe.

This history may surprise some WWE fans who wrongly believe Michelle has only just popped up on the scene because of Drake Maverick. Before her latest appearances on Raw, Renee worked extensively in Japan and for companies such as SHINE in the United States.
