10 Things WWE Fans Need To Know About Zelina Vega

2. September 11th

On September 11th, 2001, two hijacked passenger planes crashed into the World Trade Center's Twin Towers in New York City, razing both buildings to the ground, resulting in the tragic loss of close to 3,000 lives.

Zelina Vega's father was among that number. He'd been working on the North Tower's 103rd floor when the building fell, and called the 10-year-old Zelina's mother to say "goodbye" minutes before the collapse - a cripplingly sad tale that Vega recounted in her Black Hollywood Live interview:-

“I went through a period where it was just denial. I didn’t believe that what I was seeing was real to the point where, because my dad would pick me up every weekend..for a few months, I would still get ready as if he was going to come."

Vega also told her story during an out of character interview at TNA's No Surrender pay-per-view on September 11th's tenth anniversary. She also appeared in the acclaimed Children Of 9/11 documentary released in 2011, and read some of the victims' names as part of a televised memorial ceremony in 2003.

A celebrated amateur wrestler himself, Zelina's father gave her the inspiration to step inside the squared circle in the first place. Knowing their family's story, how could anybody NOT root for Vega's continued success?
