Speaking of NXT and it's incredible caliber of talent, the peak of the Orlando promotion's talent depth, as well as its popularity, came in the summer of 2015. Specifically, the high point was SummerSlam weekend when NXT sold out the Barclay's Center for TakeOver: Brooklyn, an event that included the famous, match of the year candidate between Sasha Banks and Bayley.

Anchored by stars like former NXT Champ Kevin Owens. new champ Finn Bálor, and future champion Samoa Joe, the summer of 2015 was a great time to be an NXT fan. Throw in stars on the rise like Asuka, Sami Zayn, and the great teams of Enzo & Cass, American Alpha, and Dash & Dawson (The Revival), and NXT had become arguably the most popular wrestling promotion in the world.

But the nature of developmental is to prepare talent for the main roster and, unfortunately, that means NXT's stars won't stay forever.

Sooner or later, the superstars of NXT become the superstars of WWE, and in the second-half of 2016, the promotion's popularity started to wane. Even with new talents like Shinsuke Nakamura and Bobby Roode, NXT isn't as hot as it was just over a year ago and, though it may never be again, fans can wish for a resurgence in 2017.
