10 Things WWE Got Right At WrestleMania 33
8. A Cruiserweight Classic
This is less about the quality of the Neville vs Aries match itself - although it was an incredibly tight, well-crafted Cruiserweight battle – and more about its placement on the card. A lot of fans were disappointed to learn that the Cruiserweight Division’s only WrestleMania match would be relegated to the pre-show, but all things considered, it was the right call.
Had the night begun with Ambrose vs Corbin, it would have set completely the wrong tone, and while there’s an argument to be made that the Smackdown Women’s Championship match probably would have run longer had it stayed on the pre-show, it was an important symbolic gesture to move the blue brand’s hardworking women to WrestleMania proper.
Something has to get bumped to the kickoff show, and Neville vs Aries served as the perfect way to jumpstart a seven hour WrestleMania. It warmed the crowd up without burning them out, ended in a result nobody can really complain about (Neville is still killing it after all), and it actually transpired that the crowd was probably more invested in the match than they would have been had it taken place later in the main show.
