10 Things WWE Got Wrong At No Mercy 2017
1. The Most Underwhelming Main Event Of 2017
Maybe we were the foolish ones. The hype for the main event was astounding. Brock Lesnar vs. Braun Strowman was all set up to be one of the great car crash wrestling machines. This was supposed to be five or six minutes of utter violence. What we got was nine minutes of a fairly standard wrestling match.
Who was in charge of booking this? Braun Strowman has become a major success in WWE in 2017 on the back of two things - running through things and being a cartoon monster. Having wrestling matches simply isn’t part of his repertoire. A surefire way to neutralise what makes Braun special is to have him work a 50/50 WWE main event.
Strowman’s aura was decisively killed at No Mercy. The 'Monster Among Men' was sacrificed to Brock Lesnar, becoming the latest victim of what will likely be a Reigns/Lesnar WrestleMania main event. Was this the most disappointing WWE main event of the year? It wasn’t the worst, but it didn’t come close to the expectations it had going in.
That is how No Mercy will be remembered. It promised much, but was ultimately immensely underwhelming.
