10 Things WWE Got Wrong At No Mercy 2017

3. Bye Bye John

John Cena No Mercy 2017

The post-match was another missed step. WWE clearly isn’t going to learn from its mistakes, as the company continues to believe that having Reigns’ more popular foes endorse him is going to lead to the crowd changing their minds. It didn’t work with The Rock, it didn’t work with Daniel Bryan, it was never going to work with John Cena.

Cena seemingly said goodbye to the WWE (for now) after the match, turning a shower of boos into a ‘Thank You Cena’ chant. It looked for all the world as thought 'The Face That Runs The Place' was saying goodbye to the WWE Universe, even going so far as to lovingly touch the video wall on the way out.

Is Cena retiring? At No Mercy? Absolutely not. This was further icing on WWE’s desperate big moment cake. WWE wanted Roman Reigns defeating John Cena to be a moment for the ages, even having The Miz compare it to Reigns retiring The Undertaker at WrestleMania 33. It felt forced, to say the least.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
