10 Things WWE Could Learn From The Marvel Universe

6. Merchandise

It can be hard enough publicly admitting your wrestling fandom, what with wrestling's low cultural status and everything. Wrestling is no longer 'cool', like it was during the Attitude Era and proclaiming your fondness for WWE is guaranteed to raise an eyebrow or two. It's a lot harder to show your support with WWE's merchandise department running on empty these days. Indeed, the range of t-shirts and other apparel are clearly lacking inspiration and run the gamut between boring and downright garish and ugly. Marvel, on the other hand, have on offer a bunch of cool, vintage-looking t-shirts that grown adults wouldn't feel embarrassed to wear. Sure, John Cena sells a ridiculous amount of merchandise (the royalty cheques don't lie), but how many of those t-shirts would you personally wear? Cena's t-shirts, while top sellers, have essentially been slight variations on a theme for a while now: they're usually a bright colour like yellow, orange, green or purple, have a cartoon picture of Cena in the centre and some cliched slogan like 'Rise Above Hate' or 'Never Give Up' on them. We're seen it all before and, quite frankly, it has gotten stale. Perhaps WWE could release a range of comic book-inspired merch in the future?
