10 Things WWE Must Do In 2017
6. Treat The US Title Better
Remember the days of John Cena’s US open challenge? How far the title has fallen...
Gone is the time when the champion took pride in holding his title, as current champion Roman Reigns is primarily focused on the Universal Championship. The US Championship has become an afterthought in Reigns’ current feud, only used to add minor steaks to matches against Jericho or Owens on RAW. This current incarnation of the once esteemed title threatens to undo all the hard work John Cena and Rusev put into making the championship prestigious over the last two years.
It’s not the fault of Reigns that he was booked to win the title and subsequently diminish its value. The WWE needs to either admit its mistake and take the title off Reigns or allow the samoan make the title his primary focus. If Vince and company are not intent on having Roman fight in the midcard, then the US Championship needs to be taken off his shoulders and attached to someone else.
As the brand split continues its course, Smackdown has clearly bested RAW in terms of its midcard championship. The Intercontinental title has continuously been a highlight of the blue brand in large part because of the title holder, The Miz. While the “Awesome One” may not be the best wrestler in a technical sense, he is a phenomenal heel and parades the Intercontinental Championship around for all to see. His rivalry with Dolph Ziggler has truly elevated the importance the title; and now former WWE Champion Dean Ambrose is chasing the midcard prize.
The US Champion deserves to be more than an afterthought to the WWE Universe; and RAW could learn a thing or two from Smackdown in booking the title.
