10 Things WWE Must Do To Ensure WrestleMania 33 Doesn't Suck

2. Keep Goldberg Vs. Lesnar Brief

WWE have booked themselves into a tricky spot with Goldberg vs. Brock Lesnar.

They’re in the middle of WWE’s hottest angle at the moment, and they’ll likely headline in Orlando, but there are still huge questions over Goldberg’s ability to perform for longer than a couple of minutes. The former WCW Champion has mustered less than five minutes of in-ring action since returning last year, which, at 50 years old, might be all WWE can ask from him in Orlando.

WWE should be more than aware of Bill’s shortcomings at this point, but there’ll be a strong temptation to book Goldberg vs. Lesnar as a traditional WrestleMania epic, particularly if the Universal Title is involved.

It just can’t happen. Anything more than 8-10 minutes would horrifically expose the ageing Goldberg, and close the year’s biggest show with a disappointing main event for the second year in a row. Instead, Goldberg vs. Lesnar should be kept brief. That doesn’t mean 85 seconds like Survivor Series, but it does mean restricting each man to just a couple of signature moves.

This should be all about the moment and the atmosphere, not the actual work, and surrounding the match with lengthy entrances, stare-downs, and posturing should help pad-out the time. Blowing Mania’s biggest match with a bloated runtime would be a huge error, and it’s a mistake WWE can’t afford to make.
