10 Things WWE Did Right At Payback

1. The Shield Continues Their Dominance As Triple H Loses Again

Ever since The Shield debuted in WWE in November of 2012 they have been booked in such a strong way that it's fair to say that nobody has looked stronger in the last 18 months. Daniel Bryan became a WWE Champion, but think about all the missteps along the way for him. In the case of The Shield, they have been consistently strong from the moment they started with wins over key names along the way. As a babyface trio this year they might be even better. Roman Reigns was really singled out in the match as Evolution took out Rollins & Ambrose at one point so they could destroy Reigns in the ring with kendo stick shots as well as using chairs against him. His ability to fight back is earning the respect from the fans. They admire his ability to take a licking and keep on ticking, so to speak. When Seth Rollins hit that dive off the top of the video screen that was about 15 feet high it was the biggest "wow" moment of the match. It was similar to Extreme Rules when he did a balcony dive. Those kinds of things show that Rollins will do anything to help his team win and will endear him to fans. They really didn't book Dean Ambrose to do anything that made him stand out although he did get to pin Randy Orton. As for Triple H, he ended his night looking up at the lights. He has his haters, but the man has put over Daniel Bryan clean and he put over The Shield for the second time although at Extreme Rules it was Batista that got pinned. It's nice to see that the mid 40s version of Triple H realizes it's time to put the young guys over. We shouldn't focus on when The Shield might break up although that's obviously one of those things that is hard to avoid talking about. It's just a shame that sometimes we focus on that too much instead of enjoying how great this trio is on a consistent basis. We're witnessing something special with The Shield. Enjoy it while it lasts.
