10 Things WWE Did Right At SummerSlam

2. Roman Reigns Continues His Momentum With A Clean Win Over Randy Orton

The rise of the "Roman Empire" continues as Roman Reigns beat Randy Orton clean in a 17 minute match that was second biggest match at SummerSlam. Immediately after it was over, the announce team was yelling about how this was the biggest wins of Reigns' career as a singles wrestler. They said it because it's true. While he's been a part of some huge tag match wins, this was the best win for him as a singles wrestler. Orton deserves a lot of credit for helping Reigns look like a star. These two have been wrestling at WWE live events since they headlined shows in Europe back in May. A lot of those matches had stipulations on them while this was a regular match, but the point is that they were able to build up some chemistry. Their timing was there for everything they did. The best spot was when Orton caught Reigns with a RKO out of midair and people in the crowd thought that was it, but Reigns kicked out at two. Then Reigns avoided the Punt for the Spear finish and the clean win. There are already some fans voicing their displeasure due to the push of Reigns. They think that it's too soon for him and that he's not a good enough performer right now. Maybe that's true, but WWE is still going to try to make him into a huge star. It's the same thing they did with guys like Lesnar, Orton, Cena and Batista. They find somebody they like, they build them up and then they push them to the moon with the hope that the wrestler will become a bankable star they can build around. It wasn't a great match, but there was nothing wrong with it. For the story it was exactly what it should have been. Reigns had to go over Orton. He did. The best thing was that it was clean. If it had a cheap ending it would have hurt it.
