10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Jerry Lawler

8. His 1996 Feud With The Ultimate Warrior Was A Major Flop

The much hyped return of The Ultimate Warrior to WWE in 1996 was a big deal. He was gone for about four years, then they brought him back for WrestleMania 12 (a squash win over Triple H) and after that he was put in a feud with Jerry Lawler. It was a good idea in theory because Lawler was a good, veteran heel that Warrior could beat to continue his momentum. Their match sucked. No other way to say it. Since Lawler was in his mid 40s and Warrior was just an average in-ring performer anyway, they had no chemistry. This whole thing was supposed to be a big deal, yet they failed to put on an entertaining match in the four minutes they were given. Lawler was on offense for a couple of minutes and Warrior completely no sold his piledriver. Warrior made the big comeback and that was the end of it thanks to a flying shoulderblock. What a brutal finish. The best thing we can say was that it was short. It was a feud that was supposed to build Warrior up to be a big deal once again. Instead, it disappointed and Warrior was out of WWE about a month after this match. When WWE talks about the legacies of these two Hall of Famers, they make sure to never mention this awful feud.
