10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Kane

3. Taking Off His Mask For The First Time In June 2003

When Kane removed his mask on June 23, 2003 it was a huge deal because nobody had ever really got a glimpse of the man's face before, save for a brief moment when he was unmasked by The Undertaker at SummerSlam 2000. After losing his Title versus Mask match to Triple H on Raw, Kane finally had to take his mask off. As Kane was about to do it, HHH attacked him. Kane's buddy Rob Van Dam showed up to make the save. Kane finally revealed what was under the mask with a 'dramatic' reveal. Did Kane have the long-rumoured burns on his face? Did he look like something from the most grotesque horror film? Not really, instead he had some black smudges on his face, a head that was half bald and half full of hair in the back and, well, that was about it. Some of the commentary over this moment was unbelievably cringe-worthy. Some examples: "What the hell is that? Get the shot of that face!" €“ Jerry Lawler "Is that a human?" €“ Jim Ross Why did he have black paint on his face? Why was his hair like that? After the angle he opted to go with the shaved head look. The 'burns' were deemed to be a figment of his imagination. What a crock.
