10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Mark Henry

9. He Refused The "Silverback" Nickname

Henry has been nicknamed a few different things during his career. The "Sexual Chocolate" name is the funniest one while "The World's Strongest Man" is the most effective one. When WWE gives wrestlers nicknames it's just another way to add to the character. Sometimes it works like for "Stone Cold" Steve Austin or "The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels, but there are also times where it's in bad taste and it simply doesn't work. During an interview with HuffingtonPost.com in July of 2014, Henry commented on the Silverback nickname he was given in 2007: "A lot of people remember the Silverback thing. Honestly, I could not do it. I told them: 'I can't do that. I got two little black kids at home.'" The Silverback name was in reference to the Silverback Gorilla and as a black man, he found it offensive. A lot of other people did too. For whatever reason, WWE didn't think of it as being racist when they started calling him that. Henry didn't use the nickname for that long, so kudos to WWE for using good judgment and realizing that calling him "The World's Strongest Man" was good enough.
