10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About 2018

4. Shawn Michaels' Comeback

Most wrestlers slowly roll out of the industry with shot knees and a knackered back without so much as a "Sorry you're leaving!" card. Shawn Michaels, having fought back from a similarly unceremonious first retirement to dazzle in a miraculous second run, had earned his glorious WrestleMania XXVI send-off. It couldn't have been more perfect.

Apparently it wasn't good enough for The Heartbreak Kid. Eight years after his Arizona adieu, Michaels decided a better way to go out was in a dismal tag match alongside three guys not just over the hill but over the whole mountain range. Even taking into account the mitigation of Triple H's early injury, the match had no right to headline a show in 2015, let alone 2018, and only succeeded in doing a Drake Maverick all over every man's legacy.

After the bout, a shattered Shawn sheepishly implied that maybe it wasn't a great idea. The speculated pay-off - rumoured to be in the millions of dollars - probably eased his regrets somewhat.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
