10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Bill Demott

4. Former Drug Abuse

Like many wrestlers of the era, DeMott has had problems with painkillers and other substance abuse. Wrestlers in the 1990s were flying high and Bill was no exception. In WCW he formed a clique known as the 'Chubba Bubbas' (also featuring The Public Enemy and Devon Storm) whose mission was to party as hard as they could every night. He talks about his drug abuse in detail in a chapter in his book (The Last Laugh) entitled 'The Chemist'. Some of his revelations are quite shocking, even for wrestling. Speaking about his WCW drug use, Bill says that:
I would get my bag and pop ten Somas into my mouth. I would chew them, wash them down with vodka and grapefruit juice, take a shower, and get ready to party. I never got on a plane without being drugged up in some way, shape, or form. I would get on the plane to leave the country with a pocketful of cocaine and a bottle of Somas and assorted pills.
Of course, this recreational drug use was not just because of his fondness for partying, but also because he broke his neck due to years of bumping in a wrestling ring. DeMott claims that they 'should have died ten times' and expressed his surprise at the fact he was able to keep his pill problems under the radar for so long. WWE is a family-friendly company now and they don't like to remind fans about the ills of the business and the dark paths that some of its superstars have went down.
