7. 'The One' Totally Bombed
Undeterred by the flop that was the 1999 Billy Gunn push, WWE tried again in 2000. The DX man went down with a serious rotator cuff injury in February 2000 but came back into the fold in October and feuded with Right to Censor, who objected to Gunn's 'Mr. Ass' nickname. Gunn lost a match agains the RTC and was forced to change his nickname. He (or the creative team) opted for 'The One'. He then began teaming with Chyna agains The Radicalz and captured the Intercontinental Championship from Eddie Guerrero. Unfortunately, it was clear from the onset that Gunn was not IC Title material. He dropped the strap to Chris Benoit after only a few weeks in a remarkably one-sided match at Armageddon (Benoit just dismantled him). He lasted a little while in the 2001 Royal Rumble but the fans were passed the point of caring. The One then began competing for the Hardcore Title before forming a totally forgettable team with Big Show (Show Gunns, anyone?). Yes, The One totally tanked. It was hard to figure out what the gimmick was and Gunn clearly could't cut it as a singles performer. So WWE decided to put him in another tag team...
