10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Brian Kendrick
7. Constant Marijuana Fines
One thing that lead to Kendrick's 2009 release (along with his burnout and anger at the product) was the fact that WWE had to keep fining him for testing positive for marijuana. Kendrick tested positive more than twelve times between February 2006 when the Wellness policy came into place and his release. The cost of the fine was around $1500, which WWE superstars were happy to pay as a sort of 'pot tax' but WWE grew wary of persistent offenders and began to depush them if they were consistently caught smoking. Kendrick's recreational drug use directly lead to him being buried and then fired. WWE wanted to send a message to other members of the roster and Kendrick was used as a sacrificial lamb. Kendrick reportedly challenged WWE on the issue but the wouldn't budge. It seems pretty silly that a wrestler would sacrifice a big push because they couldn't quit smoking weed, but that was Kendrick's choice. Kendrick claimed to have stopped smoking the drug in 2012.
