10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Eddie Guerrero

7. His WWE Title Run Was A Failure

One theory as to why Eddie's bladejob was so severe was that Latino Heat was feeling the pressure on top and overcompensated. It is true that Eddie was having a tough time as Champion, with house show attendances, TV ratings and PPV buys declining during a typical post-WrestleMania slump. Eddie was a hit in Latino markets and overseas tours did good business, but domestic business was falling and Eddie, as face of the Smackdown brand, took it very personally indeed. Eddie's run on top is not considered a success to those in the industry. Did he have good matches? Yes, he did. But he didn't produce where it really mattered. Not that it was all Eddie's fault: far from it. He was pretty much the only headline act left on Smackdown in April 2004, with Kurt and Angle and Big Show injured, Brock Lesnar chasing his NFL dream and John Cena not quite there yet. WWE were forced to turn career midcarder Bradshaw heel and give him a push, such was the lack of roster depth at the time. Unfortunately, Eddie's only WWE Title run was a flop. He was relieved of the belt after only five months, for his own good.
