10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Goldberg
1. WCW Booked Him Better Than WWE
As mentioned during a previous entry, Goldberg's WWE run started in tremendous fashion. Attacking The Rock on Monday Night Raw, he exploded out of the gate. A lot of the man's fan base were pleased that he seemed to be taken so seriously, because they were less-than-thrilled over how WCW had booked Goldberg during the latter year of the promotion's existence.
Whilst it's true that a heel turn hurt Goldberg's appeal, it can't be ignored that WCW booked Goldberg more successfully - over the piece - than WWE did.
The McMahon family were either unwilling to - or perhaps didn't know how to - book Goldberg properly. From his debut in late-1997, right up until around 1999, Goldberg was a force to be reckoned with in WCW. Management there knew the man's limitations, and he was rarely placed in situations which made him look foolish. Goldberg knew his audience, and gave them exactly what they wanted during his matches.
In WWE, he constantly looked more than a little frustrated, confused as what role he was expected to play in the company. At least for the first few years, that wasn't the case in WCW. Eventually, the wheels fell off the promotion's wagon as a whole, and Goldberg fell with it. However, WCW's top brass knew more about getting the best out of Bill Goldberg the performer than WWE did.
