10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Goldberg
5. That Promo With Goldust
When reflecting on his one-year stay with World Wrestling Entertainment, Bill Goldberg lets out a heavy sigh. Things started so promisingly for the man, who looked to be rekindling some of the magic he had been able to weave in WCW. in Atlanta, things had been stalled by an ill-advised heel turn in 2000, but at least WCW didn't book Goldberg in situations which hurt his hard man aura. WWE did, and playing Goldberg's character for laughs proved to be a mistake.
Just weeks after his explosive debut in the company, the creative team baffled the wrestler when they outlined a segment they wanted him to perform on Monday Night Raw. On the April 14, 2003 episode, Goldberg was accosted by Goldust in the locker room, with the latter handing the newcomer a wig to cover up his bald head. Instantly, this undermined Goldberg in the eyes of the audience.
In a perfect world, the ruthless incomer would have been booked to destroy Goldust for attempting to embarrass him. That didn't happen in WWE. Instead, Goldberg awkwardly accepted the wig, sporting a bemused smile. He must have wondered what he was getting into, because this was not effective booking.
