10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Goldberg
4. His Last Match Was A Disaster
WrestleMania XX was dubbed, 'Where It All Begins Again'. The message was simple, WWE were attempting to convince fans that the promotion were all set to freshen things up and recapture the glory days of the first 'Mania. Many of the matches on the card were memorable, but one was only notable due to extraordinary circumstances. As the 'Special Guest Referee', Steve Austin couldn't believe what he was witnessing.
For months, WWE had been building towards a huge collision between Brock Lesnar and Bill Goldberg. Finally clashing at WrestleMania, things should have been lively for positive reasons. There was only one problem, both performers were set to depart WWE immediately following the bout. The capacity crowd inside Madison Square Garden were fully aware of this, and decided to reject the match between Lesnar and Goldberg outright.
What resulted was one of the most unique atmospheres to ever greet a 'Mania match, with fans booing both men out of the building. WWE seemed a little embarrassed by the situation afterwards, and they rarely mention it now, even though they are seemingly going ahead with a rematch.
