10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Lana

7. One Ill-Advised Anti-USA Promo

WWE have a habit of dipping into current events in the news to use in storylines. Older fans will recall Sgt. Slaughter suddenly becoming an Iraqi sympathiser in the early-'90s during the Gulf War, and nobody who sat through it needs reminding of that ill-advised terrorist incident involving The Undertaker in 2005.

In 2014 at Battleground, they were at it again.

Right before Rusev crushed Jack Swagger, an American patriot, Lana grabbed the microphone and praised Russian President Vladimir Putin. That's fine, it was part of her character to show deference to "her leader". What wasn't fine though was smirking as she talked about "recent, current world events".

Anyone who had paid attention to the news could tell Lana was referencing the Malaysian Airways Flight 17 crash. The aircraft had been gunned down over Ukraine earlier the same week, and it was more than a tad insensitive of WWE to use it for heat in a wrestling promo.

Lana, for her part, looked a bit uncomfortable delivering the line.
