10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Maryse

4. She Was In A Quebec Separatist Film

Appearing in Sharknado 3 was perhaps not the most dignified career move for a woman with any serious interest in an acting career. But neither was a thirty second cameo the most damaging turn she could have taken.

On the other hand, starring in a politically motivated propaganda vehicle directed by a Quebec separatist could be considered risky business for anyone hoping to later attain mainstream stardom.

Admittedly, Maryse was only eleven years old when she 'starred' in Octobre, a fictionalised spin on the Front de libération du Québec's kidnap and murder of minister Pierre Laporte. It's unlikely she had any political leanings of her own at the time, but more likely a pushy parent who saw it is an ideal acting opportunity for her neophyte daughter.

Frankly, given their historical penchant for racial stereotypes, it's alarming Maryse was never presented as a Quebec nationalist rather than her eventual character of nobody. Perhaps creative feared the embarrassment of a quasi-terrorist gimmick being more popular than The Miz?

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
