10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Night Of Champions
3. Triple H Beat CM Punk (2011)
In the summer of 2011, CM Punk was the hottest thing in wrestling. It's almost hard to believe in hindsight, but at the time, it looked like Punk could possibly be a more popular star than John Cena ever was, and could lead the company into a new golden age.
Punk defeated Cena for the WWE World Championship and left the company with the title, all of wrestling fandom following his every move. He came back only eight days later, and while most agreed that the quick turnaround hurt his momentum, he did beat Cena in a title rematch, cementing that he was Big Match John's superior.
Unfortunately, CM Punk ran into Triple H. "The Game" and "The Straight-Edge Superstar" soon got into a feud that was treated as more important than anything that came before it - despite the fact that HHH was retired from full-time competition. They competed at Night of Champions, and those two straight wins over Cena didn't mean much when Triple H beat the hottest star in the sport.
As much as WWE would love to make CM Punk look bad these days, reliving the main event of Night of Champions 2011 should only embarrass the company.
