Wrestling is an inherently dangerous profession.

It takes an immense physical toll on a performer's body, accidents happen, and injuries are a sad inevitability. Thus, it's important not to be too harsh on wrestlers who inadvertently inflict real harm within a staged fight, but unless the company turn it into a storyline, WWE would rather most instances were kept under wraps.

Once such incident took place on the May 28th, 2010, episode of SmackDown. Rey was wrestling The Undertaker in a World Heavyweight Title tournament bout that night, and sent 'The Deadman' into the turnbuckles, dazing him. From there, Mysterio went for a seated senton, but instead of landing on 'Taker's back as intended, he crashed down upon his head.

The botch handed Undertaker a shattered orbital bone, broken nose, and a heavy concussion. This put him on the shelf for several months, and prompted WWE to devise a convoluted storyline that had 'Taker fall into a "vegetative state" following an offscreen assault.

It was all done to mask the real reason behind his absence, as getting sent to the injury reserve by a man half his size wouldn't have been kind to The Undertaker's mystique.
