10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Roman Reigns

A lot of WWE fans aren't shy about hating Roman - and he's not shy about hating them right back.

For the entirety of his singles run, Roman Reigns has been compared to John Cena. Although a rugged badass on the outside, his personality is put over as that of a squeaky-clean, do goody babyface. He smiles, he laughs and he brushes off defeats and setbacks with a wink and a wisecrack. However, as nice a guy as Reigns is inside the ring, his behaviour outside of it has often told a different story, leading to numerous incidents WWE surely wish their loyal fanbase would rather forget. The former Shield enforcer has spoken out of turn in numerous interviews, (sometimes inadvertently) running down his peers in the process. Rollins, Ambrose, Bryan, and even Big Match John have had their names thrown around carelessly by The Big Dog. In fairness, not every unsavoury incident can be blamed on Reigns himself. Numerous factors beyond his control have only fuelled the barrage of criticism he's faced since ascending to main event status, including the comments of other wrestlers, ill-advised and outright inept booking decisions, and the question of being pushed too hard too quickly.

10. CM Punk Didn't Want Him In The Shield

CM Punk's infamous tell-all appearance on Colt Cabana's Art Of Wrestling podcast last year gave all sorts of insight into the inner workings of WWE. A detail that got a little lost in the shuffle (understandable, given the shocking nature of many of Punk's claims) was his claim that he invented The Shield - and that he'd rather not have included Roman Reigns. According to Punk, he pitched the idea for the stable in response to an idea from creative, which originally would have seen him team with Big Show and Seth Rollins. He instead suggested calling up three developmental talents, his personal picks being Rollins, Dean Ambrose, and...Kassius Ohno. Ohno (perhaps better known as indie darling Chris Hero) was rejected by Triple H, and WWE instead picked Reigns (described by Punk as "their guy") to fill the third slot. Who knows how different the current WWE landscape would look had Punk got his way? WWE would probably you rather not dwell too much on a Reigns-less Shield, though.
