10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About The Dudley Boyz
9. Their Legal Battle With WWE
Considering that, following their respective moves to the Impact Zone, Goldust became Black Reign and and The New Age Outlaws became Voodoo Kin Mafia, the Dudley Boyz should probably be grateful that they were given the name "Team 3D".
Individually, they were referred to as Brother Ray and Brother Devon - with the rest of their shtick (moves, catchphrases etc) more or less the same - but the surname was never alluded to outside of the occasional commentary slip-up.
The reason for this was the protracted legal battle that followed their departure from WWE in 2005. The company was reluctant to let them take their famous moniker to a rival promotion, while the duo - who had been using it since the mid-1990s - had understandably grown attached.
Inevitably, the might of WWE's legal team proved itself an obstacle too great for the former ECW pairing to overcome. They accepted defeat in the courtroom but, clearly, the animosity between the two parties took some time to cool down (it would be a full decade before they returned to a Vince McMahon ring).
