10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About The Elimination Chamber
7. Sometimes The Result Doesn't Matter (2006, 2010)
The Elimination Chamber is hyped as WWE's most grueling match, and that's consistent - by the end of the contest, the winner has come through a war, even if he did have the advantage of being the sixth man in the bout. Unfortunately, sometimes getting over just how tough the match is means that the result gets brushed aside.
The first time it happened was at New Year's Revolution 2006. In his first-ever Elimination Chamber match, John Cena defended the WWE Championship against Kurt Angle, Carlito, Chris Masters, Shawn Michaels, and Kane. Cena was the first man in the match and he eliminated Carlito to win it, but his evening wasn't over. Edge cashed in the first-ever Money in the Bank briefcase immediately after the match, easily beating Cena for the title and erasing any memory of the Chamber.
Four years later, John Cena was once again involved in the WWE Championship Elimination Chamber match - this time, trying to take the title from Sheamus. The bout came down to Cena and Triple H, and Cena won with the STF to claim the WWE Title once again.
Immediately after the match, though, Vince McMahon announced he was giving Batista a title shot, and "The Animal" decimated a spent Cena to win the gold.
