10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About The Elimination Chamber
6. February's Not Really A Good Time For The Match
The Elimination Chamber makes for a compelling match - and unlike other multiple-man bouts, the fact that the champion has to be pinned to lose makes it feel like less of a cheap trick of a contest. Unfortunately, the Chamber would probably be better served to come later in the year, or at least take on some different rules.
The problem with February is that it's on the road to WrestleMania. There's already a Royal Rumble winner and there's already a WWE Champion, and adding five other potential headliners to the fray only complicates things. It's also notable that defending against five other guys in the Chamber is, for kayfabe purposes, a much more difficult task than anything the champion will face at WrestleMania.
On four separate occasions, though, the Elimination Chamber match in February has been used to decide a contender to a world title at WrestleMania - either because the Royal Rumble winner was on the other brand, or because of other inconveniences. In that way, the Elimination Chamber was most effective, and made the most storyline sense.
If it's going to be contested for a title, though, it should happen away from WrestleMania.
