10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About The Godfather

9. The Marijuana References

Ah, the Attitude Era, where you could tell another person to 'Suck It' and thousands of people would roar in approval and chant along. Everyone had a catchphrase back then, as well as a rolodex of sexual metaphors, just in case they needed to win an argument with a heel or rally support. It truly was an 'anything goes' time in WWE, with wrestlers not afraid to say whatever it was they thought would get them over and pop the crowd. The Godfather was no different. As well as dabbling in the selling of ladyfolk, Godfather would also openly talk about his marijuana use, imploring the audience to 'light a fatty' (smoke a joint) for this pimp daddy. He'd talk about weed a lot, and some of the references were a little on-the-nose, surprising considering how young some members of the audience were. According to Wright, he was able to do this because the network execs had no idea what he was talking about, saying:
I got away with talking about weed so openly on TV because the network executives had no idea what I was saying. They didn€™t understand the slang. They had no idea what a €œfatty€ or a €œblunt€ was, so I was able to say all this stuff and they had no clue. My friend in Cypress Hill said he was amazed at the s*** I got away with.
Now that WWE are PG-rated and will fire a man for pretending to choke someone with a tie, it's not likely that they'll drop any cute clues about The Godfather's fondness for the ganja.
