10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Wade Barrett

3. Unsavoury Bare-Knuckle Boxing Incident

You can't blame WWE for capitalising on Barrett's background in the brutal world of bare-knuckle boxing. It really adds to his aura as a hard man and gives WWE creative an interesting backstory to work with. However, there's one rather unsavoury incident from that period in Mr. Barrett's life that WWE won't be too keen to publicise... After winning the 'Battle of Buda' in Budapest, Hungary, Barrett was walking away with his cash prize. As he walked through an alleyway in search of a taxi, Barrett was stabbed by an eigh-inch blade by somebody who quite clearly wanted the money from him. Explaining how he received the scar on his back/tricep in a blog entry, Wade said:
I lost a lot of blood that day, but I wasn€™t about to lose a penny of my hard-earned cash. I can€™t say too much about what happened next due to legal reasons, but what I will say is that if I€™ve ended up with 12 inch scars on my body, just imagine how the other guy ended up looking. If you can€™t imagine it, just go and look at some minced beef next time you are in the supermarket and that should do the trick.
It makes for grim reading, doesn't it? Yes, before Wade made it to the bright lights and big cities of WWE, he was literally fighting for his life in Europe and the UK. He incroporated the bare-knuckle boxer element into his WWE character, but WWE announcers steer well clear of the 'Battle of Buda' incident. It's not something to be sharing with WWE's PG audience.
