10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About WrestleMania 28
2. The WWE Championship Match Was Overshadowed
For a year prior to WrestleMania 28, the Rock-Cena main event was the selling point of the show. When The Undertaker returned to Raw on January 30 and challenged Triple H to a match, it was clear that the card was going to be well and truly loaded. Unfortunately, the WWE Title had not yet been accounted for, and even though CM Punk was in the midst of what would eventually become the longest reign of the modern era, he was once again left out of the show's main event. As much as his bout with Chris Jericho was an exciting prospect, it was clear that he was going to be overshadowed. In the end, the WWE Championship was underemphasized even more than fans feared. The crowd was dead following Undertaker's classic match with Triple H, and they didn't get into the Punk-Jericho match (the show's semi-main event) until the closing minutes. The bout was quite good, but it was a distant third in the evening's hierarchy of importance. This isn't meant to suggest that Punk and Jericho should have gone on last, but the title will only ever be as meaningful as WWE pretends it is. It didn't seem terribly important at WrestleMania 28.
