10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About WrestleMania 28
3. Nobody Wanted Cena To Win
Heading into WrestleMania 28, WWE higher-ups had to know that making John Cena a fan favorite would be an uphill battle. Cena had spent years splitting crowds when working against opponents on the regular roster, but at The Rock's first singles bout in nearly nine years, it was looking to be a tough evening for Big Match John. Heading into the show, Rock and John Cena traded verbal blows, with each man delivering some powerful barbs. Still, WWE had no interest in portraying either man as a heel - especially not Cena, who was still the top babyface in the company. Each and every week, though, it became more and more clear that the divided crowd WWE was anticipating wasn't going to be as evenly split as they hoped. Finally, at WrestleMania, it was clear that WWE's attempts to build support for both men were in vain. The bout - which was hosted in Rock's hometown of Miami - saw 70,000-plus fans screaming for Cena's head. Though they were sent home happy when The Rock scored the win, Cena's reception was something of an indictment of WWE's current product.
