4. John Laurinaitis Became GM Of Raw And Smackdown!
That aforementioned 12-man tag team match wasn't simply a bout designed to get as many superstars on the card as possible - it also had high stakes when it came to the landscape of both Raw and Smackdown. With Raw General Manager John Laurinaitis and Smackdown General Manager Teddy Long feuding leading into the event, it was determined that each man would assemble a team, and the winning team would give their benefactor sole authority over both shows. "Team Johnny" ended up winning when The Miz pinned Zack Ryder, giving the wooden Laurinaitis control of both of WWE's shows. He appointed Eve Torres "Executive Administrator" of the shows and his reign atop the company looked like it was just getting started. Instead, the opposite was true. Soon after WrestleMania, Laurinaitis picked a fight with John Cena. While the GM beat Cena at Over the Limit thanks to help from The Big Show, Cena beat Show at No Way Out in a bout that, per the stipulation, led to Big Johnny's (kayfabe) firing from WWE. Less than three months after his WrestleMania victory, Laurinaitis was no longer a television character, making the win seem ill-advised in retrospect.
