10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About WrestleMania 40
4. They Acknowledged That The Undertaker And Kane Aren't Brothers
They did it: WWE finally acknowledged that The Undertaker and Kane aren't actually brothers, a revelation that sent shockwaves through the wrestling community, as it destroyed one of kayfabe's last facts.
The announcement came during a video package that highlighted siblings grappling at WrestleMania. It talked about the Uso, then compared their match to Matt Hardy Vs. Jeff Hardy in 2009 and Owen Hart Vs. Bret "Hitman" Hart in 1994. Fans waited for it to mention how The Undertaker and Kane had faced each other not once, but TWICE at the Show of Shows...nothing!
The Undertaker's character was heavily protected throughout his career, but since he's taken part in so many interviews as Mark Calaway, while Glenn "Kane" Jacobs became mayor of Knox County, Tennessee, it's become too hard to keep kayfabe alive.
Their story is one of the least believable there is, with both of them burying the other alive countless times, having tried to burn down the family house as children. Did we actually think this was real once?
Jim Cornette will be fuming, but, like Edge and Christian before them, WWE is happy pretending this whole thing never happened. It's a shame, but it fans want to see interviews with wrestlers after they retire, kayfabe has to die when they hang up their boots.
