When Graves turned 18 he went off in search of better training and eventually found himself based down in Ocala, Florida, where he trained at Dory Funk Jr.'s Funking Conservatory. Graves won the Funking Conservatory Tag Team Championship on one occasion, teaming with Chris Cage. Who? WWE fans may remember him as Caylen Croft (one half of the DudeBusters with Trent Baretta), but most fans won't remember him at all.

Graves isn't the only WWE star to come out of the Funking Conservatory. Five WWE Hall of Famers (two of whom are soon to be) worked there for a brief time - legends such as Kurt Angle, Edge, Lita, William Regal, and Rikishi. Other Funking Conservatory alumni include Christian, Matt and Jeff Hardy, Paul London, Chris Sabin, and Mickie James.

The conservatory runs a wrestling promotion called !Bang!, which tapes wrestling TV at the Dory Funk Arena, and has also long had close ties with All Japan Pro Wrestling. Graves' time at the school wasn't long but he was able to make an impact nonetheless.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
