10 Things You Didn’t Know About Conor McGregor
1. McGregor Has Never Defended Any Of His Titles
Dating back do his days with the London-based promotion Cage Warriors, Conor McGregor has held a total of five champions since turning pro.
In 2012, he captured his first belt, the Cage Warriors Featherweight Championship. Instead of defending the title, at the next event, he would go up a weight class and fight for (and ultimately win) the Cage Warriors Lightweight Championship. Before he got a chance to defend either title, the Irishman signed with the UFC.
McGregor would get his first taste of UFC gold when he defeated Chad Mendes at UFC 189 to capture the interim featherweight championship. From there, he would face Jose Aldo to unify the featherweight belts, which meant the interim version of the title essentially dissolved. Of course, McGregor would end up defeating Jose Aldo for the UFC Featherweight Championship in perhaps his most impressive win to date.
However, prior to anyone challenging him for the title, McGregor decided to move up to lightweight to pursue yet another belt. As a result, he would be stripped of his featherweight crown.
Following a pair of epic bouts with Nate Diaz, McGregor would go on to face Eddie Alvarez for the UFC Lightweight Championship and end up winning the fight via second-round TKO. Once again, McGregor's title would eventually be stripped due to inactivity.
Despite having held five titles over the course of his career, McGregor has yet to even attempt a single title defense.
