10 Things You Didn’t Know About Kurt Angle
7. National Wrestling Hall Of Fame
Despite switching allegiances from amateur to professional wrestling,
Angle was still rather fondly remembered by his colleagues in his former field.
So much so that he was even honoured with a Hall of Fame induction, something
that has so far eluded him in relation to his pro run in WWE.
Angle was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame as a Distinguished Member in 2001. A Distinguished Member is described as “a wrestler who has achieved extraordinary success in national and/or international competition”, so I think it's safe to say that Angle ticks all the necessary boxes there.
All in all, it’s quite the achievement, given that wrestlers of the professional variety are rarely welcomed into the amateur ranks with arms wide open.
In fact, at the time, Angle was actually the only pro wrestler to have had such an honour bestowed upon him by the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, a record that, to the best of my knowledge, still stands to this day.
