10 Things You Didn’t Know About Sasha Banks

8. She Went To School Online

At the age of 13, Sasha Banks decided to quit going to school and committed herself to full-time online education. The bullying she was experiencing was reason enough, but her brother was going through something similar, only far more intense. The family had moved around the country trying to find a decent school for Sasha’s brother, but enough was enough.

Banks dropped out of school and began to follow her education online, essentially so she could become her brother’s full-time carer. An incredible commitment at any age, the decision robbed Banks of a traditional childhood, of developing teenage relationships and all the pros and cons that come with it. Talk of life giving lemons and making lemonade is one thing, but trivial metaphors are somewhat flimsy in the face of real sacrifice and commitment.

The situation was less than ideal (an understatement), but positives can be taken from anything and everything. Deciding to leave school to be educated online and to look after her brother may have ripped Banks away from a traditional upbringing, but it would also have instilled character traits and skills in her that would stand her in good stead as the years passed. Especially if she was planning on entering a notoriously tough industry, like, oh, professional wrestling maybe?

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
