Sasha Banks is one of the most respected professional wrestlers on the planet, a multi-time champion who has changed the way women are perceived in the industry while influencing an entirely new generation of would-be superstars. She is living the dream.

All of which is a long, long way from what was an immensely difficult childhood. Banks has spoken about her childhood struggles on several occasions, revealing a difficult start as her mother tried to raise Sasha and her brother without the help of their father, who Banks has referred to as a ‘deadbeat’. Snoop Dogg’s uncle wasn’t short of money or time, but he had no intention of being a father.

The family moved around frequently, and the tumult wasn’t helped by problems that Sasha frequently experienced at school. Life was miserable, to say the least, and it took a life-changing decision at the age of 13 to turn the ship around.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
