10 Things You Didn’t Know About WWE’s Intercontinental Title
7. Ezekiel Jackson Held It Longer Than Some Legends
No, your eyes are not deceiving you.
Big Ezekiel Jackson is on a list featuring names like Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart, Pat Patterson, Chris Jericho, Triple H and more. This fact is a pretty damning example of how WWE's interest in the Intercontinental Title's credibility has occasionally plummeted over the years. In 2011, it was a mid card prop, nothing more.
When Zeke won it from Wade Barrett at Capitol Punishment that year, he embarked on a totally unmemorable 54 day reign with the once-proud title before losing it to Cody Rhodes. Here's the thing though: Jackson's 54 days make him a longer-reigning champ than WWE icons like Kurt Angle, Booker T, CM Punk and JBL.
That's depressing, and things become worse when realising that he held the title for 19 days longer than Angle (35 days), doubled the length of JBL's stint (27 days), enjoyed 20 more days in the hot seat than Booker T (34) and held it for five days more than Punk (49). Screw you, 2011 creative braintrust.
