10 Things You Didn’t Know About WWE WrestleMania
8. The IC Belt’s Odd Omissions
Fans of a certain vintage (pipe down, whippersnappers!) will always hold Randy Savage vs. Ricky Steamboat from 'Mania III aloft as everything right about the Intercontinental Title. That classic, one that has obviously been superseded by some of the blistering sh*t pro wrestlers get up to in-ring now, is still fondly remembered.
So, it's quite the surprise to learn that WWE ignored the cherished IC belt for six consecutive WrestleManias. It's true; after RVD vs. William Regal at 'Mania X-8, the secondary strap wasn't defended again on a supershow until 'Mania XXV's Rey Mysterio vs. JBL match.
Y'know, the one that lasted a whopping 21 seconds.
The Intercontinental gold wouldn't be seen again after that until Big Show vs. Cody Rhodes at 'Mania XXVIII. How very dare WWE besmirch the beloved belt like that, eh? Worse, the promotion relegated IC to the pre-show the very next year in 2013.
GUNTHER's prize should get a lot more respect this year.
