Balls Mahoney died on April 12, 2016, aged 44. The cause of death is as of yet unknown, and speculating on what it may be would be crass, insensitive and downright disrespectful. Whatever your opinion of Balls Mahoney the performer, outside the ring he was someone's son who tried to live his dream.

Jonathan Rechner was also a father and a husband. His son, Christopher, was born in November 2007 and was named in memory of Rechner's best friend, Chris Candido. Rechner also had 'C.C' tattooed on his right arm, a tribute to Candido, and always said he would name his first born after his much-missed friend.

Deaths in professional wrestling are all too common, a most tragic consequence of a profession that demands complete sacrifice. As fans, we often forget that behind the performers stand real people, with real lives and real relationships. Jonathan Rechner's son will now grow up without his father, and this is the biggest tragedy of all in this particular story.

R.I.P Balls.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
