10 Things You Didn't Know About Balls Mahoney

You'd struggle to find two more polar opposite performers than Balls Mahoney and Lance Storm. One was a wild, chair swinging self identifying freak, who would rile up the crowd by encouraging them to swing 'Big Balls' and chant 'balls' and 'nuts' with every punch. The other was a technician's dream, a man for whom a wristlock could become a thing of beauty and a good match trumped entertaining at any cost.

Still, Storm and Balls worked together on a number of occasions in ECW, most notably in the tag team with their respective partners (Chris Candido and Axl Rotten). In fact, Storm's ECW debut actually came against Balls Mahoney, at the Living Dangerously PPV in 1997.

In a Q & A on his website back in 2008, Storm was asked if there was ever a spot that he had flat out refused to do. Storm replied that there were of a number of spots he wasn't interested in, but the individual story he identifies recalls him telling Paul Heyman that if he had to take another Balls chair shot, he would quit. This was after taking a grand total of one Balls chair shot.

Heyman responded by consistently booking Storm to hit Balls with chair shots.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
