10 Things You Didn't Know About Beyond The Mat
5. Edge Was Uncomfortable Being Spotlighted
In that same chat with the Two Man Power Trip pod, Barry revealed something else remarkable: Darren Drozdov wasn't the only young upstart the WWF had offered for the doc. Matt Bloom, who had debuted earlier in the year as 'Prince Albert', and Edge were also amongst the federation rookies McMahon was keen to spotlight.
Droz was the only one who was really into it.
Blaustein said that Edge, in particular, shied away from the thought of being featured in 'Beyond The Mat'. Maybe he was under-confident, or perhaps the Canadian didn't think it'd do his career any good to peel back the curtain when he'd just snagged a slot in the biggest company. Whatever his reasons were, Edge told Barry he wasn't game.
Bloom was similarly reluctant, and that's why Droz got so much attention; his gregarious personality was a nice fit for the atmosphere Blaustein wanted to present in that segment of the film, and he was definitely an extrovert who was willing to goof around for the cameras.
