After leaving the wrestling business, Laurer's life would seemingly lurch from one disaster to the next. Substance abuse and addiction seemed in control, and the media pre-occupied themselves with some of the worst examples of disaster voyeurism to come out of pro wrestling in recent memory.

She would appear in a number of porn films (winning awards one must add), but the negative media attention was too much to take and Laurer made the decision to start anew elsewhere. As she tells it, she packed a suitcase and booked a one-way ticket to Tokyo.

Starting completely new in a foreign place is hard enough, let alone doing so in a country so culturally foreign as Japan. Laurer did it however, and for three years she taught English in the Japanese capital. Her previous training in the Peace Corps was finally put to use. By her own admission this was just an attempt to get things back on an even keel, before returning home to the USA.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
