10 Things You Didn't Know About Eddie Guerrero

5. He Had Backstage Fights With Kurt Angle And Charlie Haas

Eddie Guerrero might have been one of the most innovative wrestlers of his generation but he definitely had a lot of old-school in him. He wasn't shy about confronting people backstage if he thought the situation warranted it and could be known to fly off the handle from time to time.

Growing up wrestling in Mexico and generating huge heat with Art Barr as the Los Gringos Locos tag team, Eddie regularly found himself fighting his way out of a brawl or riot. In Japan, Eddie would sometimes have to fight for real to get something in the match as the Japanese wrestlers could be uncooperative and try to test foreigners (or gaijin).

The two most notable instances of Guerrero fighting in the back occurred in 2003 and 2004 during his second spell with the company with WWE. In the first instance, Eddie and Charlie Haas exchanged punches before being separated by other wrestlers. Eddie had separated his shoulder during a Los Guerreros versus Team Angle match at a Smackdown taping and after he buzzed Haas about it he continued to work over the shoulder anyway. Eddie confronted Haas backstage and tempers flared. The two eventually shook hands and Haas said in a 2005 interview with Power Slam magazine that he had a couple of run-ins with Eddie but 'loved him even more' after them, which is nice to hear.

The Angle fight was similar to the Haas fight, with Eddie complaining to Angle, Mark Jindrak and Luther Reigns that they were being too rough with him (during a period when Eddie was struggling physically). Angle called Eddie out for what he perceived to be lacklustre performances in their recent matches and Eddie saw red, diving for Angle's legs. Of course, Angle is an Olympic gold medal winning wrestler so Eddie didn't get very far but the whole 'fight' only lasted a few seconds anyway. JBL posted a funny blog entry where he recalled asking Eddie why he thought it was a good idea to try and fight Kurt Angle, with Eddie replying instantly 'because I'm an idiot!'. It's good to know that Eddie had a sense of humour about it afterwards, even if he was momentarily furious.
