10 Things You Didn't Know About Paul Ellering
5. He's Stock Market-Savvy
Paul Ellering's nickname, "Precious" Paul, is a perfect arrogant pro-wrestling name, reminiscent of that of "Gorgeous" George Wagner (and helped by the fact that, early in his career, Ellering had a full head of bleached-blond hair). The "Precious" appellation, however, had nothing to do with appearance - it was instead based upon the fact that Ellering was an investor in precious metals and the stock market.
Ellering's managerial character was always supposed to be business-savvy - he'd carry newspapers with him to the ring in order to give the impression that he was keeping track of his finances. In real life, Ellering is also an investor, one who closely follows the stock market despite a full-time job owning and operating a tavern.
When Ellering returned to WWE in 1998, his "investor" persona was given a bit of an update - he now had the nickname "Mr. Dot Com", referring to the then-popular habit of buying Internet domains and flipping them for a profit.
