For longtime ROH fans, there must be something truly cool about seeing Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens go head-to-head in WWE. Both those men are living their dreams, but the rivalry on Raw and SmackDown was actually born out of what happened between the pair in Ring Of Honor.

There, as El Generico and Kevin Steen respectively, Zayn and Owens were first tag-team partners. Together, they even captured the ROH Tag-Team Titles by defeating Jimmy Jacobs and Tyler Black (Seth Rollins) in late-2008.

The following year was when things turned sour between the duo. Steen viciously turned heel on his partner after losing to The Young Bucks at Final Battle 2009.

The rivalry between Generico and Steen lasted a full year, only temporarily ending at Final Battle 2010. A later match at the same event in 2012 proved to be their last in ROH, but they were essential to one another's success in the company.

For those wondering why they seem so natural in the ring together on WWE television, their history in ROH is the reason.
